Why start Alene&Co.
In the past year, I’ve become way more conscious of what I’m putting in and on my body. Everywhere I turn, it feels like more women are getting diagnosed with cancer or autoimmune issues — and at younger ages than ever. That freaked me out enough to make some changes.
I’m a hairstylist, which is honestly one of the most toxic jobs out there in terms of chemical exposure. So I started making shifts. I switched to a less toxic color line(shout out Arete), I stopped doing smoothing treatments with formaldehyde, and even stopped coloring my own hair as much. I also peaced out on Botox and fillers. (Still love a good serum tho, don't get it twisted, but bye bye frozen forehead).
The moment that really got me? I kept getting asked by clients what products they should be using — especially for scalp issues or hair growth — and I was drawing blanks. Most options were either full of crap ingredients, caused irritation, or just straight up didn’t work. And don’t even get me started on minoxidil. Sure it can work, but it’s harsh, and when you stop using it… say goodbye to your new hair. Cool.
So one day I just thought — why don’t I make something myself?
Now here we are. After I put my kid to bed, I’m in my office, working on branding, formulas, my website, this blog, and everything in between. My dining room is basically a lab at this point.
Things are happening. And I can’t wait to see where this goes.
